VR Animation
Using VR animation app Quill and procedural tools like Blender and Houdini, Amalgamation and friends have developed unique workflows combining live puppetry, frame-by-frame animation, replacement animation, and stop-motion techniques, which can then be imported into Houdini or Blender for meshing, simulation, shaders, lighting, hair, particle effects, and more.
Game Night
Animated in VR with Quill — the characters were "modeled" in Quill and animated without needing any rigs, over the course of 2–3 days for the entire short. Then imported into Houdini to run through Chris' custom setup that meshed them and added jiggle / procedural animation tweaks, and then rendered in Blender. Animating in VR without rigs enabled them to be created very quickly and expressively, more like 2D cel animation, while also not being limited by a rigged armature.
